Physical Education

Welcome!

I believe Physical Education is a necessary component of the total school curriculum.  No other area of the curriculum is devoted to helping children maintain an active lifestyle.  My goal this year is to introduce a variety of skills to your child, in order to help and encourage them to become more confident in their physical abilities.  By participating in a variety of enjoyable physical activities, my hope is that students will be able to find an area of interest and pursue it outside of Physical Education.  I believe all students should be able to use their Physical Education class to develop a sense of creativity, imagination, and unique expression.  In doing so, they will be able to develop individuality and use their time in the Physical Education setting to grow as an individual.

This year in Physical Education I will be teaching a skills theme-based curriculum.  Students will learn basic motor skills and fundamental movement skills.  These will then be applied into more complex sequences/games.  I believe it is important at the elementary level for students to learn and become competent in basic physical skills.  These building blocks make up the psychomotor foundation that will help children lead a more physically fit lifestyle.  Once children are successful in these fundamentals, they can become confident in their abilities and are more likely to participate in a variety of physical activities throughout life.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns during the school year. I will have a website on the specials staff page that will inform you about the units we will be learning this year.  I truly believe that together we can instill a value and desire for physical activity, for both health and enjoyment purposes!
