My Wonderful Staff and Heritage Community,

It is hard to believe that we have completed nearly six weeks of hybrid learning with all of your students.  Our e-Learners have been at it for nearly five weeks and we are hopeful they have figured out Edgenuity and are enjoying their online learning experience.  As you know, the Douglas County School Board voted to have all elementary schools go back to in person learning 5 days a week by a target date of October 19, 2020.  Our teachers are excited to have all students back every day.  We will continue to do our very best to wash hands, sanitize, wear masks and social distance whenever possible.  Please know that having all students return will be another learning curve and your teachers will be communicating with each of you as they maneuver this new change.  A reminder that both Thursday and Friday of this week will be asynchronous learning at home for your children as teachers prepare for full in person learning after fall break.

Due to the current pandemic, we are unable to do our normal FundRun fundraiser this fall.  We typically raise close to $30,000 for the school at this fundraiser, and not being able to do it this year would have a huge impact on funding for Heritage Elementary.  Due to educational budget cuts across Colorado, it is more important than ever to raise much needed funds for Heritage.   The money we raise each year has a direct impact on each and every student and their classroom, so we want to try something new in hopes that we will still be able to raise some funds to support our school.  This year our annual fundraising goal of $50,000 will be used to directly support the costs of curriculum for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. This includes new enVision Math Curriculum, iReady Reading instruction, Math Mates, Handwriting books, Benchmark Phonics, Guided Reading Materials, and Science curriculum.

In lieu of our annual FundRun, this year we are excited to announce our “Heritage Hive Kindness Drive”  This fundraiser will run from September 28th - October 21st, 2020!  Much like bees thriving in a beehive, our Heritage community is filled with collaborative, industrious, resilient workers dedicated to a common mission.   No act of kindness is too small and the possibilities are endless.  Students will earn prizes for both pledges received and acts of kindness performed, but the real reward will be in the positive changes they will see through their acts of kindness and paying it all forward.  We are asking our students to ask family and friends for pledges to go towards our $15,000 goal and then in return, to go out and pay that kind act forward by performing kind acts for others.  We invite all our Heritage hybrid learners and eLearners to participate in this Kindness Drive and watch the kind acts ripple through our community.  If there is any year that needs more kindness put out into the world, 2020 is it!

Please reach out if there is anything I can do to support your students, jean.wolach@dcsdk12.org.  So proud to be the leader at such a wonderful school with an amazingly hard working staff and awesome students/community!

 Warmly, Jean Wolach
